Description
Francis House, on Vicarage Street in Tintinhull, is a detached former farmhouse dating back to 1609. Originally known as Francis's Farm, as indicated on Ordnance Survey maps, it is constructed of Ham stone ashlar with a plain clay tiled roof, coped gables, and stone slate base courses. The building has stone slab chimney stacks and a distinctive 'L' shape, comprising a main block of four bays and a gabled projecting wing. A continuous cill mould and eaves mould run across the facade. The house features ovolo-mould mullioned windows, with arrangements of two, three, three, and three lights on the upper floor, and two, four, four, and four lights on the lower floor. A small additional window is located to the right of bay 4. A moulded, cambered-arched doorway in a wave-mould flat-headed recess is situated to the right of bay 2, with labels above all the lower windows, continuing over the doorway. The return of bay 4 incorporates a three-light and a two-light mullioned window, along with a 20th-century window above and a 20th-century doorway below. A date plaque displaying '1609' is positioned under the eaves above the door in bay 2. 20th-century rear extensions have been added to the property. The interior was not inspected during the listing process.
