Description
The East Gateway and East Boundary Wall of the churchyard of St Margaret's in Tintinhull are likely from the 19th century, with the gateway being remodeled in 1901. Constructed from Ham stone, the gateway features wrought iron gates and an ornamental overthrow.
The boundary wall is approximately 2 meters high and made of cut and squared stone, topped with chamfered ashlar copings. There are no gate piers at the entrance, which has a pair of gates designed with necked and collared joints on the middle and top rails, along with scroll braces and decorative elements on the middle rail. Above the gates is a panelled, scrolled wrought iron overthrow that includes a bracket for a light holding a late 20th-century lantern. A commemorative plaque is affixed to the left (south) arm of the overthrow, added in 1901 to honor one of the parishioners.
This gateway and boundary wall are recognized for their architectural interest, particularly the attractive ironwork, and they hold group value as part of a visually historic ensemble with other listed structures, including St Margaret's Church and various grave markers, as well as the north and east boundary walls of Tintinhull Court.
