Description
The gateway into Tintinhull Court is located in the southeast corner of the churchyard of St. Margaret, along St. Margaret's Road. This structure, along with the associated east and south boundary walls, dates from the 18th century and is built of Ham stone with timber gates. The wall stands about 4 meters tall, featuring cut and squared stone at the base and rubble above, topped with thin copings. The square ashlar gate piers have a moulded plinth, cornice moulding at the top, and necked ball finials. The 20th-century timber gates have concave curved top rails, and there are three segmental stone steps in front of the gateway. The wall has small curved sweeps leading down to the piers and, after about 2 meters, turns southward to connect with the northeast corner of Tintinhull Court, which forms part of the southern boundary of the churchyard. This gateway may have replaced the 16th-century 'Stonyn' late.
