Description
The west and south boundary wall with a gateway to Courtfield is a boundary structure dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of Ham stone ashlar and features moulded flat copings. The wall averages 2 metres in height and has slight piers at intervals along the Great Street elevation, while it is lower along Church Lane. At the corner, there is a gateway with square piers that have moulded plinths, deep fluted friezes adorned with rose ornament, and moulded tops that include steps and ball finials, along with later timber gates. This wall is an important visual feature in the street scene, prominently marking the corner and enhancing the setting of Courtfield.
