Description
Norton sub Hamdon Primary School is a mid-19th century school building constructed from cut and squared Ham stone with ashlar dressings. It features a plain clay tiled roof that is set between stepped coped gables. The building has a double-roof plan and is single-storey, with a west elevation consisting of three main bays and one additional bay. There are bay and corner buttresses with offsets rising to about two-thirds of the height. The windows on the first three bays are three-light with Kentish tracery and transoms, with the centre lights positioned higher. The fourth bay includes a small porch extension on the south side that matches the main structure, featuring a chamfered pointed-arched doorway. The elevation facing the churchyard is plain, and the school has significant group value with the nearby dovecote and the Church of St Mary the Virgin.
