Description
This group of five chest tombs dates from the early to late 18th century and is located approximately 15 meters southeast of the corner of the Parish Church in Chard. They are made of limestone. The tomb farthest southeast is from the early to mid-18th century and is completely covered in ivy. The second tomb, about 4 meters northeast of the first, is from the late 18th century and features a hipped top with moulded edges, reeded pilasters on the long sides, and raised and fielded panels on all sides. The third tomb, located about 2 meters north of the second, is an early 18th-century example with a very shallow hipped top and deeply raised and fielded panels. The fourth tomb, also early 18th century, has a hipped top with moulded edges and fluted Ionic pilasters in the middle of the long sides and at the corners. The fifth tomb, from the early 18th century, has a shallow hipped top and likely has fluted pilasters that are obscured by ivy.
