Description
This is a row of three cottages located on Church Street in Minehead, likely remodeled and extended in the mid to late 18th century from an earlier structure that probably dates back to the 17th century. The cottages feature painted render over cob or rubblestone, with the rear outhouse of No. 1 being partly cob. They have a continuous hipped thatched roof, with brick stacks at the party walls and right end, and rubblestone stacks at the rear.
No. 1 has a two-unit central-entry plan with a cob rear wing, while No. 3 also has a two-unit central-entry plan. No. 5 has a three-unit plan and includes a likely 19th-century one-bay extension to the right. Each cottage is two storeys tall and has a two-window range. Nos. 1 and 3 feature 19th-century two-light casement windows and nearly central doors. The centre of No. 5 steps slightly forward and has one 19th-century three-light window on the first floor, two on the ground floor, and a window on both floors of the right-hand range. The upper windows of No. 5 have 17th-century painted mullioned frames.
The lean-to has a planked door and a two-light window, while a 18th-century door to the left has six raised and fielded panels and is set back below a flying freehold of No. 3, positioned to the right of a 19th-century planked door to No. 3. No. 1 has a 20th-century door. The interiors have not been inspected.
