Description
Nos 14 and 16 Middle Street is a house, now divided into two dwellings, dating from the 16th or 17th century. It is constructed of colourwashed cob with a thatched roof, featuring an external lateral stack at the center front and a brick stack at the right gable end. The building has an L-shaped plan, with the main range consisting of three rooms and a front lateral stack that heats a central hall.
It is two storeys high and has a one-window range. The stack has a circular shaft and a small light on the ground floor to the left. To the left of the stack, there are small 19th-century two-light casement windows on each floor. The roof slopes down to a single-storey entrance for No 14, which has an 18th-century planked door and a 19th-century two-light leaded casement window to the left. To the right of the stack, there is a door in a 17th-century moulded door frame with stops, likely leading to a former cross passage, and a 19th-century three-light casement window to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
