Description
9 and 11 Middle Street are two houses built in the early to mid-18th century. They feature painted roughcast over cob or rubblestone and have a continuous steeply-pitched plain tile roof with exposed rafter ends and brick stacks at the gable ends and rear. Each house has a central entry plan with a rear wing to the right and a lean-to extension to the left. They are two storeys tall and have a nearly symmetrical three-window arrangement. The windows are mostly flat-mullioned, with two, three, and four lights, each having three 19th-century panes. The first-floor windows are positioned at eaves level. The left side of No. 9 has a small leaded light on the first floor. No. 11 has a single light in the attic, a two-light casement on the first floor, 19th-century leaded glazing on the right side of the first floor, and 20th-century three-light casements on the ground floor. Both houses have halved six-panel doors with raised and fielded panels that are glazed at the top and are topped with flat hoods. The interiors have not been inspected.
