Description
Ferndale is a house dating from the mid-19th century, featuring a front range in the Tudor style and a lower height 17th-century wing at right angles to the rear. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with freestone dressings, wide eaves, a slate roof with a crested ridge, and brick stacks. The front range is two storeys high and consists of three bays, with two and three-light stone-mullioned windows that have labels and casements for each light. The central door opening is framed in stone and features a half-glazed door with marginal glazing bars and stained glass. An elaborate ashlar porch with a segmental outer opening and strapwork parapet enhances the entrance. To the left, there is a single-bayed addition that matches the style of the main house, with a throughway on the ground floor and paired sash windows with a central dividing mullion on the first floor, also featuring marginal glazing bars. The lower height 17th-century wing at the rear includes a projecting stair-turret on the west wall and a mullioned window.
