Description
The footbridge over the stream and the wall on the north-west side date from the late 18th century. The bridge features large blocks of undressed quartz, Ham stone voussoirs, and brick soffits and abutments. It is a single span arched bridge without coping, and there is a shallow waterfall with six steps created in the stream below on the north side. The abutting wall on the north-west side is made of undressed quartz, stands about one metre high, and extends for approximately 10 metres. The bridge was not accessible during the survey in March 1984. This structure is all that remains of Batts Park, which was located about 100 metres to the north-west and was demolished in 1937 when Sherford camp was constructed. The bridge is also mistakenly referred to as the Roman Bridge.
