Description
The Baptist Church is an early 19th-century building constructed of red sandstone random rubble with brick dressings and a pyramid slate roof. It has two storeys over a basement. The first floor features segmental headed sash windows, each with six panes and marginal glazing bars. There is a projecting flat-roofed enclosed porch that has a cyma recta moulded cornice and arched double doors with recessed arched panels. These doors are accessed by a flight of five steps that are flanked by fine enriched cast iron handrails. The basement is fronted by spearheaded railings and is lit by segmental headed sash windows. The left half of the church facade is partially obscured by The Manse, which abuts it at a right angle. Inside, the east end is panelled and fronted by enriched cast iron railings, and there is no gallery, with a crypt located below.
