Description
Slades Cottage is a cottage that may have origins dating back to the 15th century but was largely rebuilt in the 18th century. It is constructed from local stone rubble with exposed timber lintels and features a thatched roof between coped gables, along with brick chimney stacks at both ends and in the middle. The cottage is a single storey with an attic and has a random arrangement of four windows. The west end of the cottage projects about one metre and is covered by a catslide thatch roof. To the east of this is a 20th-century porch with a tiled roof that matches the projection. The windows are small pane casements, with the upper two set slightly into the thatch. Although the interior has not been seen, the roof, which is shared with Little Slades to the east, reportedly has four early roof trusses, likely jointed crucks. Little Slades is attached to the east side of Slades Cottage, with no proper division and the ground floor undersailing.
