Description

A pair of cottages dating from the early 19th century, situated on the south side of Silver Street in Lower Muchelney. The cottages are constructed of local lias stone with Ham stone dressings, featuring a double Roman clay tile roof with stepped coped gables and brick chimney stacks. They are single-storey with attics, arranged in two bays. The windows are chamfered mullioned, with square labels and cast iron diamond lattice casements. Bay 1 has a 4-light window, and Bay 2 a 3-light window. Above the second bay is a 2-light window within a coped gabled dormer, which also has a laylight on its left side. Between the bays, and to the right of Bay 2, are two boarded doors set within plain chamfered surrounds with square heads and labels. An east-facing gable contains a 3-light and 2-light window to the upper level, with a 20th-century steel casement below. The west gable has 20th-century small-pane casements and a single-storey lean-to addition. The interior of the cottages has not been inspected.
