Description
Windmill Cottage is a detached cottage, probably from the 17th century, that has been modified. It is built of local lias stone that has been cut and squared, with a colourwashed finish and Ham stone dressings. The cottage features a thatched roof with a stepped coped gable on the south side and a hipped roof on the north end, along with brick chimney stacks. The building has an 'L' plan and is a single storey with attics, presenting a two-bay roadside elevation.
The windows are hollow chamfered mullioned types with three lights, featuring rectangular leaded panes. The window in the first bay has ovolo moulded jambs and no label, while the second bay window has a label. Between the bays, there is a 20th-century boarded door and frame set in a plain opening under a timber lintel. On the north side, there is a continuation that includes one two-light mullioned window, likely reset, in the north wall, with a copy alongside it. In the southeast corner, there is a larger late 20th-century extension, which is not of special interest, as is the lean-to garage against the south gable. The interior has not been seen.
