Description

School Farmhouse is a farmhouse with medieval origins that was reshaped in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is built from lias stone, featuring a red brick facade in English garden wall bond and Ham stone dressings. The building has a thatched roof with a stepped coped gable on the west side and a plain east gable, along with brick chimney stacks.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has four bays. On the ground floor, there are four-light hollow chamfered mullioned windows with flat heads and square labels, featuring rectangular leaded panes. Some of these windows have iron framed opening lights with external stays. On the upper floor, there are three-light leaded casements, also with iron framed opening lights. The second bay on the ground floor has a boarded door set in a heavy frame beneath a timber lintel, which is covered by a 20th-century curved metal porch hood. There is a 20th-century casement window in the west gable and a proudstanding stone chimney stack with offsets on the east gable.

Internally, the farmhouse has been somewhat altered in the 19th century, but the roof frame retains jointed crucks with windbraces. Attached to the southeast corner is a single-storey stone building with a thatched roof, featuring a half-timbered gable panel and a small window that is now blocked.
