Description
This industrial building, located about 6 metres west of Hurst Barton, dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble made from Ham stone, with ashlar dressings, and features a Welsh slate roof with plain gables. The south end has a flat-roofed platform, which may have been used for a former bell-turret. The building has three storeys and is divided into three bays.
On the east elevation, there are plain mullioned windows with beaded surrounds: a 2-light window in the lower bay of the third bay, a 3-light window in the second bay on the first floor, and a 3-light window in the second floor of the third bay. The first bay on the ground floor has a plain opening leading to a boarded door with a deep stone lintel, while the second bay features a pair of boarded doors set in a 3-centre arched opening.
The south gable includes a casement window on the ground floor, a boarded door in a simple opening on the first floor without an approach stair, and a 4-light mullioned window on the second floor. The interior has not been seen. This building is presumably the 19th-century glove factory located in Newtown, the central part of Hurst.
