Grant's Shoe Factory, Hill Road, Arbroath

Grant's Shoe Factory, built around 1882, is a two-storey factory with a piend roof and 15 bays, featuring a three-stage corner tower on the right. There is a single-storey corner block facing East Newgate, which has remains of a small tower that may have been a water tower on the outer right. To the rear, there are two long buildings with pitched roofs, now in a ruinous condition. The factory is constructed from coursed local red sandstone with polished grey sandstone dressings.

On the northeast elevation facing Hill Road, there is a base course, cill courses, and an eaves course. The building features long and short quoins, and the windows are adorned with moulded architraves. There are round-arched entrances with prominent voussoirs located in the fifth bay from the right and the sixth bay from the left. A modern entrance has been added to the ground floor of the piend-roofed tower on the right, which also includes a bipartite window with a bracketed cill on the first stage and a decorative oculus on the upper stage.

The northwest elevation facing East Newgate has key-blocked oculi in the gables of the single-storey buildings at the rear. The windows are currently boarded as of 2001, and the roof is covered with grey slates, featuring ventilators.
