Description
Meadow House is a former rectory that has been converted into a hotel. It likely dates from the 17th century, with expansions made in the 18th and 19th centuries, and it was restored in the late 20th century. The original building features a three-bay east front, which has been extended on the north and south sides, with the main entrance now located on the north front. The north front is rendered over random rubble and has a slate roof that is hipped to the left and gabled to the right. There are independently roofed lower blocks on the right, with brick stacks positioned to the left of the entrance and at the right gable end. The building is two stories high and has a three-to-one bay arrangement. It features 12-pane tripartite sash windows flanking a central 12-pane sash window. Below this, there is a central 20th-century pilaster strip wooden doorcase with a many-paned glazed door and a rectangular light above, accessed by a flight of three steps. To the left, there is a rectangular basement light. The lower block to the right has 20th-century windows inserted on the first floor, replacing an earlier projecting turret that was demolished in the late 20th century. The left return, which was the original entrance, has three bays, a brick stack at the left gable end, gabled dormers, and tripartite 12-pane sash windows. The interior has been extensively altered in the 19th and 20th centuries and includes vaulted brick cellars.
