Nos 1, 2 And Shop Adjoining No 2

Nos 1, 2 and the shop adjoining No. 2 are two cottages and a shop located on the east side of The Street in Chilcompton, dating from the 18th century. The cottages, Nos 1 and 2, are constructed from coursed and squared rubble with alternating dressed quoins, and feature a double-Roman tile roof with end brick stacks and a coped verge. They are two storeys high with a layout of 1:2 bays, and have 2 and 3-light moulded stone-mullioned windows, each light fitted with a casement. There are two door openings with edge-roll moulded stone architraves; No. 1 has a plank door, while No. 2 has a panelled door.

The shop adjoining No. 2 is rendered and also has a double-Roman tile roof with a brick stack. It is two storeys tall and consists of three bays. The shop features 20th-century casements in moulded stone architraves, except for a 19th-century casement located to the right on the ground floor. The early to mid-19th-century shop front on the left side of the ground floor includes broad 6-pane casements on either side of a 6-panelled door, with the top two panels glazed. It also has a transom light, a fascia board, and a shallow hood supported by four brackets.
