Description

Lloyds Bank is a bank building with a flat above, dating from the 19th century. The facade, which features a ground-floor shop front from around 1880, was restored around 1990. It is constructed of Bath stone ashlar, with rendering above the ground floor level that is colourwashed and has scribed false joints. The roof is a hipped double roof made of Welsh slate, with rendered brick chimney stacks, all in a classical style.

The exterior consists of three storeys and six bays. The ground floor is entirely in ashlar, with semicircular arched openings at each end. The left side has a six-panelled door beneath a plain fanlight, while the right side features a heavy cast-iron gate with an overpanel. The central doorway has an egg-and-dart moulding, flanked by a portico with quasi-Ionic pilasters on a plinth and a swan-neck pediment, which is topped by a triangular pediment. This pediment includes panels with the word 'Bank', a swag, a blind panel, and the inscription 'Established 1835' underneath. On either side of the doorway, there are three sets of casement windows separated by quasi-Ionic pilasters, with a non-classical frieze and cornice above.

On the first and second floors, there are sash windows set in moulded stone architraves, with 12 panes below and 9 panes above. The building features a projecting cornice and a plain parapet. The interior has not been inspected.
