Description

30, 32, and 34 High Street is a building that consists of one shop, which was formerly two separate buildings. The facades date from the 19th century, concealing work from the 18th century and possibly the 15th century. The structure is made of brick with some stone dressings, all covered in colourwash, and features hipped double-Roman clay tiled roofs for each half, with ridges running at right angles to the street.

The exterior has three storeys, with a single bay on the west section that is set back slightly, and a two-bay east part. There is a later 20th-century shop front that spans the entire width of both sections, featuring a recessed doorway towards the left side, beneath a deep fascia. On the upper floors, the west bay includes an angled bay window with a flat roof beneath a plain parapet. The two east bays have sash windows in plain openings, topped with gauged brick flat arches, and are under a wide projection cornice and a taller plain parapet. All windows have single vertical glazing bars within otherwise plain units. There is a 19th and 20th-century extension at the rear.

Inside, the ground floor has been completely remodeled in the 20th century. The west section features Regency pattern doors leading to the first floor, along with a staircase from a similar period to the second floor, where the doors are of an 18th-century style. Although the roof space is not accessible, the feet of the trusses appear to incorporate windbracing. The east section has been significantly modified and has a 19th-century collar truss roof.
