Description

No. 43 St Mary Street is a house built in the mid-19th century. It features red sandstone rubble with freestone rusticated quoins, archivolts, an impost band, a platband, cills, and a doorcase. The roof is covered with double-Roman tiles and has two brick stacks on the left side. The building has an L-shaped plan and displays Rundbogen-style details.

It is two storeys high with a two-window range. The front has a bracketed gable above plate-glass sash windows, which are set in semicircular arched stone architraves with impost blocks. The first floor has paired windows with moulded archivolts and a continuous impost band, while a platband sits above a similar triple window. To the right, there is a doorcase in a narrow bay, featuring pilasters with moulded cornices as imposts, an archivolt, and a keystone that connects to the platband. This doorcase includes a semicircular overlight and a 20th-century six-panel door. At the eaves level, there is a small plate-glass sash window. The left side of the building, which faces the forecourt of the Baptist Church, has similar architraves for one-light windows flanked by projecting stacks, with stone at the base and brick above to the eaves. The interior has not been inspected.
