Description
Holmes Buildings are two houses that have been converted into hotel accommodation, dating from the 18th century. They feature painted render on brick with steep pantile roofs and stone coping. The left house, No. 2, has moulded kneelers and brick stacks at the gable ends, including a small stack to the left and a substantial stack to the right. The right house, No. 1, has a forward-facing gable and a tall stack to the left that is adjacent to No. 2's stack. Each house has a double-depth plan and is two storeys high, with a two-window range. Both houses have small 20th-century casement windows with three panes per leaf and 20th-century doors. No. 1 features two 20th-century two-light windows at eaves level and a platband above segmental arches leading to a three-light window on the left, with a two-light window to the right of the right-of-centre door, which has a hood and a small recessed stone plaque above it. No. 2 is lower, with its door on the right below a small single-light window, and a two-light window on each floor to the left. The interiors have not been inspected but are noted to have been altered.
