Description

These are late 19th-century commercial offices, built of ham stone with a brick backing and an ashlar finish, with a Welsh slated roof. The roof has coped gables banded in two colours and a brick stack on the right-hand side, although the left-hand stack has been reduced to a stone base. The facade is five bays high and three stories tall, with rusticated stone bands marking the top of each floor, including under the eaves cornice. There are prominent kneeler coping brackets. A central archway provided access for wagons, flanked by two doorways, all with stilted segmental arches and rusticated surrounds featuring prominent springers and keystones. Four-pane sash windows are set in architraves on either side of the central archway, with the lower middle glazing bar removed from each window. The first and second floors each have five sash windows of four panes, set in architraves; the central first-floor window has a lugged and heeled design. Three first-floor windows retain ornamental cast iron retainers to the cills. The interiors were not inspected. These properties are listed for their group value, as they help to close the vista at the end of Silver Street.
