Description

The Pall Tavern, with stables to the rear, is an inn that was rebuilt in 1856, possibly incorporating some earlier materials. It is constructed of brick and is colourwashed, topped with a double Roman clay tile roof. The building stands three stories tall in a plain Georgian style, featuring three wide bays. The central entrance is a six-panel door with a simple stone surround and a flat hood above it. On either side of the entrance are 16-pane sash windows set in plain openings, each topped with flat gauged brick arches. The first floor has three 16-pane windows, while the second floor has three 12-pane windows, all fitted with modern false shutters. The gables have plain verges, and there are brick stacks at each end.

On the north side, facing Market Street, there is a modern three-story extension from the mid-20th century. The interior has been significantly altered at ground floor level, and the remainder has not been inspected. There is an inn sign on the northwest corner, supported by an interesting wrought iron bracket. Attached to the rear are the stables, which were likely also rebuilt in 1856. This large two-story brick building is colourwashed on the front and has a double Roman clay tile roof, with the north gable featuring a coping and a brick stack at the opposite end. Originally, it had six bays, but only four are now visible. The building has 16-pane sash windows on both floors, except for the second bay on the ground floor, which has a large chamfered brick arch with modern infill above a 15-pane glazed door. The various links and extensions are of little interest, and the interior has not been inspected.
