Description
Nos 5 and 6 are terrace houses, now used as offices, dating from around 1820. They are constructed of brickwork that has been colourwashed, topped with a Welsh slate roof featuring plain verges at the gables. Each house is two stories tall and has two bays, with the terrace built in stepped pairs, making Nos 5 and 6 the highest. The central doorways are located on either side of the party wall, with doors that have had their upper panels removed for glazing. These doors are set in semi-circular arched openings and feature fanlights above with radial glazing bars. Wrought iron brackets for curved porch hoods are still present, although the hoods themselves are missing. Each house has 16-pane sash windows, one on each floor, with all glazing bars intact.
The side elevation of No. 6 is also colourwashed brick and features a circular window with square panes set high in the gable, likely from the early 19th century. The ground and first-floor windows are 20th-century middle casements. The interiors have not been seen. The rear extensions, now known as No. 7, are not included in this listing. The boundary railings for this pair are more elaborate than those of the others, and are almost certainly from the early 19th century. Matching railings on the opposite side of the footpath extend to the limits of No. 6. This stepped terrace of houses, along with Nos 1-4 Church Terrace, is an important feature in the setting of the Church of St John the Baptist.
