Description
The east boundary wall and two flights of steps to the churchyard of St John the Baptist date from the middle of the 19th century, likely coinciding with the main restoration of the church. The wall is constructed from local stone, which is cut, squared, and laid in random courses, rising to about 4 meters in places with a stepped character. It features a heavy angled plinth and piers with offsets, along with triangular roll-moulded coping. The steps are located at the north end, serving the Church Terrace, and also near the southeast corner of the churchyard and Church Street, with simple piers that have moulded capitals. This wall and the steps are not only integral to the church's appearance but also an important part of the Silver Street scene.
