Description
The Globe Inn is a public house dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of red sandstone random rubble and features a bitumen treated slate roof that is hipped to the right, along with brick stacks. The building occupies a corner site that slopes down to the west, with the main facade facing north and a return elevation facing west.
The facade is two storeys high and consists of three bays. It features mid-19th century tripartite cruciform windows set within painted rusticated surrounds, complete with stepped lintels. The central doorway is round-headed and has a four-centred arch, leading to a 20th-century door.
On the return elevation, which is two and a half storeys, there are three bays as well. The two outer bays on the right have 16-pane sash windows, while the left first floor has a partially blocked opening with two 20th-century cruciform windows. Below this, there is a simple 20th-century cruciform window, all framed by similar rusticated surrounds and lintels, except for the partially blocked window which lacks a lintel. In the centre, a depressed arch with double doors provides access to the cellar.
