Description
The gateway to Puriton Manor is likely from the 18th century, although it may include some materials from the 15th or 16th century. It is constructed of painted freestone in a Neo-Perpendicular style. The structure features three archways with flat-pointed arch heads, with the central arch being the widest and the side arches slightly narrower. Each arch has moulded heads and jambs, foliate spandrels, and labels, along with small carved figures on either side of each arch. The central arch includes a keystone with an achievement and is topped with a cornice. There are 20th-century iron gates and railings. The gateway is prominently located by the roadside, although Puriton Manor itself is not considered to be of special interest.
