Description
The walls, gates, and gateway about 15 metres north of Penfound Manor are listed as a significant structure. The walls, which may date back to the 16th century, are possibly rebuilt and form the north side of the courtyard in front of Penfound Manor. The gateway is from the late 16th century, while the gates were added in the 20th century. The walls are constructed of stone rubble and topped with slate coping. The granite gateway features a gabled roof covered with scantle slates and has wrought iron gates. The gateway, set within tall walls, includes a moulded granite segmental arch adorned with blind quatrefoils carved in the spandrals. Above the archway is a slated gabled roof, and the iron gates are embellished with scrollwork cresting and ornamental iron leaves.
