Description

The Cockpit in the grounds of The Grange is a 17th-century structure built of rubble, with some coursed and squared stone, and remnants of external plastering. It features three two-stage buttresses and an additional later conical thatched roof. The building is circular in shape and has a plain exterior without any openings, except for a wide full-height door opening to the northeast, which has a 19th-century door inserted. The interior was formerly galleried and has a flagstone floor. The complex roof structure appears to retain elements from the 17th century.
