Description

Grandon Manor is a country house dated 1679, constructed from coursed rubble with a stone dentil eaves cornice and a hipped stone slate roof. It features two 20th-century hipped roof dormers and two pairs of diagonally set ashlar stacks with moulded caps. The building is L-shaped with a symmetrical frontage, consisting of two storeys and attics across five bays. The central first-floor windows are two-light ogee-moulded stone-mullioned and transomed, while the remaining windows have been renewed in a matching wooden style, each with headed lights and weathered strings above. There are two-light stone-mullioned and transomed windows in two bays on the left and right returns, with leaded lights on the left side and brick-blocked windows on the right; the strings continue along the returns.

At the rear, there is a door opening in a projecting wing, featuring a moulded wooden surround and a studded plank door, along with a two-storey flat-roofed rubble porch. Above the door is a stone shield with raised letters stating "GIM 1679". A five-bay wing of lower height projects at right angles to the rear, containing two and three-light stone-mullioned windows with leaded lights, which is believed to be part of a house from the 15th century.

Inside, the manor includes a contemporary staircase with moulded newels featuring pendants and finials, and turned balusters. There is a fireplace on the first floor with a four-centred stone surround inscribed "16 GIM 71" and a moulded cornice shelf.
