Description

The Old Chapel is a Wesleyan chapel, dated 1849, and subsequently converted into a detached house. It was originally built in 1848 and altered in the mid-19th century. The front of the chapel is constructed from dressed limestone, with pebbledashed returns on the right side; the left return is of rubble stone. The roof is covered in concrete tiles, and there is a brick stack. The building is two storeys high with a two-window front. A central four-panelled door is flanked by a 16-pane semi-circular headed window with a keystone above each. The first floor has two semi-circular headed windows, and a central stone tablet bearing the incised lettering “WESLEYAN / CHAPEL / 1849”. Tall 24-pane semi-circular headed fixed windows are located in the right and left returns. A 19th-century schoolroom, featuring three four-pane sash windows, is attached to the rear. The interior has been converted for residential use, but retains a gallery above the entrance.
