Description
The Fowler monument is a chest tomb located about 2 metres south of the nave of the Church of St. Andrew in Northover, Ilchester. It dates from the 18th century and is made of ham stone. The base is buried, while the sides feature semi-circular arched panels that are dentilled and include imposts and keystones at each end. The south flank has two such panels, while the north flank has a single plain panel. There are pilasters on the flanks that display crude scratch decoration, and the tomb is topped with a heavy hipped top that has cyma-recta coving. This monument commemorates John Fowler, who died in 1714.
