Description

The cottages at 1 and 2 Sock Hill Cottages date to 1867. They are built of red brick in English bond, with decorative black glazed bricks used as alternate stretcher courses. The corners have Ham stone quoins, and the window and door surrounds are also in Ham stone. The roofs are hipped, covered in plain clay tiles with decorative bands, and have exposed rafter ends. Brick chimney stacks are present.

Each cottage is two storeys high and has two bays. The entrance doors are in the outer bays, set within stone architraves, and have later timber and tile-roofed porches. The windows are chamfered mullioned, with leaded lights, three lights on the lower floor and two lights above. A brickwork inscription, "0.0.G. 1867," is worked into the front wall and partially obscured by the porch roofs. Extensions have been added to the rear. The cottages are part of a notable group of mid-19th century brick buildings in the parish, likely associated with the Goodford estate.
