Description
Two cottages, probably dating from the late 17th century, located on Staunton Lane, Alcombe, near Minehead. They are likely built with cob or rubblestone and have a painted render finish, all under a continuous thatched roof. The roof is hipped and swept upwards over The Haven, the cottage on the right. The cottages have two-unit plans and two storeys, with a four-window front. They feature 19th-century casement windows, with those on the first floor set within half-dormers. The front has two adjacent 20th-century doors set within 17th-century oak doorframes, which have moulded jambs and cambered heads; the left-hand door has run-out chamfers. Single-storey lean-to additions extend from each end, the left one thatched with a 20th-century door, and the right one with a pantile roof and two 20th-century windows. The interiors, which were not inspected, are reported to have exposed purlins in the upper rooms and plaster-laid lofts. Ground-floor beams are ceiled.
