Description
The Old Bakery is a cottage located in a row of buildings, likely dating from the 17th century and modified over time. It is constructed of cut and squared ham stone with ashlar dressings, and features a Welsh slate roof over stone slate base courses, topped with coped gables. The building has brick chimney stacks at both ends and in the middle.
It stands two storeys tall and has two bays. Originally, it had chamfer-mullioned windows set in chamfered recesses, with labels above the lower windows. The mullions have been removed, and in the lower bay two, the jambs have also been replaced, resulting in 3-light horizontal-bar casement windows for all but the lower bay one, which retains a 2-light window. Between the bays is a moulded 4-centre arched doorway without a label, featuring a 20th-century door. There is another former doorway on the extreme left that has been blocked with ashlar. The interior has not been seen. The building is included primarily for its group value in this significant open area in the center of the village.
