Description
The Lawn, also known as the Royal British Legion Club, is a building dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. It is situated at right angles to Mary Street and is two storeys high with a rendered exterior. The building features a moulded cornice and a hipped slate roof, with the center of the front façade slightly projecting. There are three windows with plain surrounds and sill brackets, along with a three-light canted bay and a three-light window on the ground floor to the left and right. The upper floor windows have glazing bars, while the ground floor has a large central Tuscan doorcase with an open pediment. The entrance includes modern double doors, a small semi-circular doorway with a fanlight, and a six-panel door facing the street.
The Lawn is part of a group of listed buildings that includes Mary Street House, the Unitarian Chapel, and the School on Mary Street, as well as Wilton House in Hammets Walk and numbers 1 to 14 Upper High Street.
