Description

The Forge is a cottage dating from the 17th to 18th century. It features roughcast over rubble with a thatched roof and brick stacks at the gable ends. The building has a large raking buttress on the right side and is designed with a two-cell plan and a cross passage. It stands two storeys tall and has three bays. The first floor has early 19th century leaded iron casements, including a small central window with three panes by two. On the ground floor, there are two 2-light early 20th century casements flanking a central four-panel door, and a slate-roofed pentice porch supported by wooden piers. Historically, there was a smithy located to the east of this cottage.
