Description
No. 57 High Street is a house with a shop, dating from the late 19th century. It is built of local stone rubble with Doulting stone dressings and features a Welsh slate roof with a stone ridge and plain gables, along with brick end chimney stacks. The building has two storeys and three bays. It includes a plinth, a band course, and rusticated quoins.
In the first bay, there is a 4-pane sash window set in a plain keystoned surround. The central entrance features a reeded 6-panel door beneath a stilted segmental arched fanlight, all within a recess that has a plain surround and a moulded flat hood supported by corbel brackets. The shopfront is plain, with a 2-light window and a recessed doorway to the left. Above the shopfront, there are three 12-pane sash windows and another recessed doorway to the left, with three additional 12-pane sash windows in plain keystoned surrounds. The shop interior has seen little alteration. The building is primarily noted for its group value within the row.
