Description
This is a house located at 45 Long Street, dating from the 17th century and altered in the mid-20th century. It is constructed of red sandstone random rubble, with part of the first floor rendered and colour washed on the right return. The building features a steeply pitched pantiled roof and a hipped roof projection on the facade, which was originally a stair turret. There is a brick stack on the right gable end and another between the first and second bays on the left.
The plan of the house has been altered, likely originally consisting of three cells and a cross passage. The entrance is now located in the third bay on the left, with two rooms on the left side and a kitchen on the right. The stair turret projection has the entrance now on the right return gable end, with an outshot at the rear. The house is two storeys tall with five bays on the front and one on the right.
The first floor features 17th century style cruciform windows, with a small glazed opening in the second bay on the right beside the projection, and a similar window below. There are three 16-pane sash windows on the left, another 20th century window at the end left, and an inserted 17th century style window in the projecting bay. The right return has two early 19th century two-light leaded iron casements on the first floor, along with two small pierced 20th century windows. A wooden porch with gable trelliswork and a half-glazed plank door is set to the right of the fireplace. The interior has not been viewed. A court illustration from 1922 shows the house before its alterations.
