Description
Number 48 (Croftways) and Number 50 is a house dating from the early 19th century, possibly earlier. It is constructed of red sandstone random rubble, with the ground floor mainly rendered. The building features a large brick relieving arch over the two end bays on the left, a hipped asbestos slate roof with overhanging eaves, decorative ridge tiles, and brick stacks that rise from the eaves and to the left of the entrance on the roof ridge.
The plan is a double pile, and the house is two storeys high with a long facade that has a layout of two: one: three bays. The first floor has 16-pane sash windows, except for a small two-centred arch leaded window above the entrance in the third bay on the left. On the ground floor, there are three 16-pane sash windows to the left of the entrance, and two flat-roofed single-storey canted bays with sash windows on the right. The entrance features a 20th-century six-panel door with a rectangular light in the third bay on the left. The relieving arch suggests that there may have been a large opening on the ground floor at one time, possibly for a shop window. The interior has not been viewed.
