Description
Greenwood Farmhouse, now a retirement home, dates from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick with pantiled roofs, coped verges, and gable stacks. The house has a symmetrical central block with a cornice band, a parapet, and brick coping, flanked by lower wings on either side. The central block is two storeys and an attic, with three bays. The first floor has 12-pane sash windows, while the ground floor has 4:12:4-pane triple-light sash windows, all with brick voussoirs, stone keys, and cills. A central door opening features a 6-panelled door, the top four panels glazed, flanked by fluted pilasters and topped by a flat hood with a moulded edge on consoles. Each gable includes a 2-light casement window illuminating the attic space. The wing to the left is single-storey and attic, with a 2-light and a 3-light casement window. The wing to the right is two storeys with a 3-light leaded casement over a casement and a 3-light sash window. A rendered wing projects at right angles to the rear and has a roof that slopes down to the north, with single-storey and attic accommodation and casement and sash windows. The interior retains contemporary features, including a staircase, doors, and window shutters. The building is an elegant design set back from a busy main road.
