6/42 The Malthouse 10 metres East of Hill Farmhouse -

GV II

Malthouse, now disused. Late C16 - early C17. Random rubble, render, cob, C20 hipped slate roof, centrally placed C18 brick stack below ridge. Main block with evidence of demolished projecting wing to left of centre, remains of large stack and fireplace visible on facade. 2 storeys, first floor 3-light ovolo moulded mullion window (unglazed) to right of remains of stack, similar unmoulded 4-light to left. 4-centred arch doorway to right with remains of early plank door, similar to left but distinguished by flight of 4 steps. Unusually fine moulded ashlar double opening to bread oven on facade. Left return elevation built into hillside, this appears to be single storey, with 2 window openings originally lighting upper floor of building, now open to the rafters in left-hand, main portion.
