Description
The former police station, built in 1856-1857 to the designs of C E Davis, is an example of Gothic architecture. It features local rubble with Bath stone elements and has tiled roofs. The upper parts of the chimneys are made of ashlar, with chamfered corners and gablets above the base. The building is two storeys high and has a layout of three bays, one bay, two bays, and one bay. A large central gable projects forward and includes a pointed and traceried window on the first floor, along with a three-bay stilted arcade on the ground floor. The flanking gables above the first floor have half-dormers with pointed and traceried windows. There is a moulded band above the ground floor that separates the subdivided and traceried windows. To the right, there is a hipped gabled cross-wing with a square bay on the ground floor.
