Description

Peacock Cottage is a detached cottage located on Cary Road in North Cadbury. Originally shown as Dairy House on the Ordnance Survey map, it dates from the 17th century and was extended in the 19th century. The building is constructed from cut and squared lias and Cary stone, with Doulting dressings, and features a double Roman clay tile roof. The earlier southern portion has coped gables and brick chimney stacks.

The cottage has two storeys with an attic and is arranged in two groups of two bays. The southern bays are from the 17th century, with bay 1 featuring 4-light timber casement windows, the upper of which has an early chamfered frame. Bay 2 contains reserve-chamfer mullioned windows with labels, a 4-light window below and a 3-light window above, along with an added casement window below to the right. The later bays 3 and 4 have 2-light casements, with the lower windows having toplights and set under voussoired segmental arched heads. Between bays 2 and 3, there is a boarded door in an arched opening, accessed by a flight of seven stone steps. The interior has not been seen.
