Description
This building is an outbuilding dating from the 18th century, located about 14 metres south-east of No 27 on South Street in South Petherton. It is constructed from roughly cut and squared ham stone and features a clay pantiled roof that has a hip to the south and a stepped coped gable to the north, suggesting it may have originally had thatch. The outbuilding is single storey and includes an early 19th-century timber window set into the north gable. This window has a semi-circular arched head with 'Y'-tacery and rectangular leaded lights, and it is likely relocated from another site. The west elevation is plain. Although the interior was not seen, there is a matching stone wall extending from the north-east corner of the outbuilding northwards, which is about 2.5 metres high. This wall links to the south-east corner of No 27 and features a cambered-arched gateway leading towards the house. The outbuilding and wall have significant group value and contribute importantly to the setting of No 27.
