Description

Road sign located at Whitehall, South Petherton. This sign dates from the early 20th century, featuring two finger posts that may be older. It has a cast iron circular post with a foundry mark from Bishop Bros. of Wellington and a standard Somerset County Council pyramid top, although the topmost part of the post is broken off. The next section reads "Hospital" and is of a later design. The sign includes two bottom arms with lipped edges and rounded corners; the top arm points to "South Petherton/Shepton Beauchamp 2 1/2", while the lower arm indicates directions to "East Lambrook 1 1/2 Kingsbury Episcopi 3 Martock 2 1/4 Lamp(o)rt 7".
