Description
The Old Rectory is a detached house, formerly serving as a rectory, built around 1900. It is constructed from cut and squared lias stone, featuring bands and quoins of Ham stone, and has a plain clay tiled roof with plain gables and a hipped south end. The building has rendered chimney stacks with offsets and is designed in a style reminiscent of the architect Voysey.
The house has a T-plan layout and consists of two storeys with attics. The west elevation has three bays, with the first bay slightly projecting as a gable. There is a plinth eaves course and casement windows with rectangular leaded lights, all featuring shallow triangular arches. In bay one, there are pairs of two-light windows on the ground floor, a four-light window on the first floor, and a three-light window in the attic. Bay two includes a mezzanine two-light window and a six-light window in a pitched roof dormer, while bay three has a four-light window below and a three-light window above. All ground floor windows have semi-circular arched lights.
At the angle of bay two, there is a matching stone porch with a hipped roof and fully glazed leaded doors. The rear of the building has extensions, including a bell turret on the ridge of the north crosswing. At the east end of this wing, there is a short lower wing that matches the main structure, ending in a small turret with a pyramidal roof, which has pairs of slit vents under the eaves on each face. The interior has not been seen.
